Every day billions of Euros are being traded in stock markets like the Frankfurt stock exchange or NYSE, making publicly traded companies one of the most valuable assets in financial markets.
The Equity department consists of eleven sector-teams, namely:
- Transportation & Automotive
- Food & Retail
- Infrastructure
- Chemicals, Commodities & Materials
- Financials
- Healthcare
- Technology
- Energy & Utilities
- Industrials
- Consumer Goods
- Media & Telecommunication
Our analysts do not only conduct several sophisticated stock pitches per semester, learning from the experience of their teammates while obtaining further guidance from our Investment Board.
During biweekly roundtables, Equity Market Meetings (EMM), we also discuss the latest changes in our portfolio’s performance, constructed from European Small- and Mid Cap stocks.
Furthermore, our analysts are provided with hands-on educational workshops to teach them everything about valuation techniques (DCF, Multiples, SOTP), investment reporting, ESG investing and many more.
Additionally, we frequently organise events in collaboration with alumni and industry professionals, allowing members to gain insights and network.
Interests have a significant impact on our daily lives. Not only do they depend on changes in prices for currencies or commodities, but also geopolitical measures and economic data.
Within the FI department, we discuss the latest news on a political and macroeconomic level, starting with a fundamental analysis of interest rates and fiscal policy in different countries and analysing the corresponding influence on the respective bond markets and currencies. We continuously try to comprehend and retrace developments in primary and secondary markets and aspire to deepen our knowledge concerning derivatives. Our analysts’ findings and insights are then applied in the construction of our fixed-income portfolio, consisting of selected fixed income ETF’s depicting global financial markets and a variety of currencies and structures.
Our department is split into regional teams which guarantee a global coverage of markets. To share our knowledge gained through the versatile experiences of our members, we conduct regular educational sessions, dealing with technical aspects of products and markets. During these sessions, analysts obtain the skills required to conduct sophisticated analyses together with their teammates.
Additionally, our members gain industry-specific insights and expand their network by participating in our exclusive events and workshops conducted in cooperation with alumni and industry professionals.
In the constantly evolving environment in Investment Banking, a solid technical foundation and a strong network are essential tools for success.
Many talented students aspire to the profession of investment bankers, as it involves a steep learning curve, early assumption of responsibility and dynamic project work, especially in the first few years. This results in a demanding application process and a high number of applicants, which makes it significantly more challenging to enter the industry.
Faced with this reality, we created the M&A department to share the knowledge and teach the members on the primary valuation methodologies, deal research and M&A specific topics used in the daily work.
The M&A department actively supports the members in their entry into the M&A industry by organizing different meetings and workshops, which give the needed skill set to get an offer for an internship or full-time position. Furthermore, we share insights and offer a vast networking opportunity during hands-on sessions and workshops conducted with alumni and industry professionals.
At the end of the semester, we host a pitch competition to apply the newly acquired knowledge. Members will be divided into teams and will work out a sophisticated pitch in the context of a current M&A transaction, which is finally presented to a jury of M&A professionals.
Investments in alternative asset classes such as private equity and private debt have become increasingly popular over the past decade due to expansionary monetary policy and the resulting low-interest-rate environment since the global financial crisis.
Historically, the private equity industry has been notoriously senior-heavy when it comes to personnel. We see this trend changing and aim to bridge the gap between ambitious Frankfurt School students and leading investment houses.
In our Private Capital Department, our members learn about the investment process and related skills that a private market buy-side analyst must possess. Special sessions introduce participants to financial modelling of leveraged buyouts and commercial analysis of business models. Our members will also benefit from a variety of workshops along with sponsors and a unique case competition.
Behind every successful organisation stands a capable cross-functional department responsible for tasks that guarantee an effective working environment. With high interest in financial markets and extraordinary managing abilities, our primary mission is preparing and executing FS Invest’s numerous events.
Other responsibilities include the recruitment and internal management of the initiative`s members, the maintenance of our website and social media channels as well as the management of our annual budget.
As an international-orientated investment club, FS Invest truly believes that banking goes beyond borders. Every August, the London Banking Trip gives 12 highly selected students the opportunity to visit Europe’s financial capital London and obtain valuable insights into the Investment Banking Divisions of the world’s most prestigious financial institutions.
In a 2-day trip, we will visit four different firms, focusing on large investment banks to network with senior bankers, solve complex case studies and incentivise outperforming Frankfurt School students to apply for the London offices of the visited institutions.
